BLESS RESTAURANT & HOSPITALITY WORKERS

WITH CARE CASH GIFT ENVELOPES!

WHO IS THIS FOR?

Hospitality workers are one of the hardest-working yet most fragile groups in our community. Whether they are servers, cooks, dishwashers, or cleaners, they are vital to our local economy but often struggle to provide for their family’s basic needs and face a seasonal work cycle, with a long winter of reduced work and pay. Unexpected medical expense, auto breakdown, or lapsed rent payment can spell crisis, even homelessness or job loss, for them. They often lack medical insurance and paid sick leave, and during Covid’s pressures on the hospitality industry, their situation is significantly magnified.

WHY ENVELOPES?

Our “Care Cash” envelopes are designed to be inserted with $20 and used to randomly bless hospitality workers with an unexpected gift.  This can be a difficult time of year for many people as they struggle to provide gifts for their families, and hospitality folks are hardworking people who rarely reach out for help. Unexpected kindness from people they don’t know, especially those they are always focused on serving, means a lot.

WHO QUALIFIES?

They are designed to be used for anyone who works in a restaurant, bar, coffee shop, hotel, or motel in Coeur d’Alene, Hayden, or Post Falls.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

logomark150.png
  1. Take the number of envelopes you need (please only take what you will use).

  2. Fill each envelope with $20.

  3. When you are dining out, picking up takeout, or making a special stop at a business you want to support, leave your server a good tip.  Then, hand them the envelope and say, “here’s an unexpected gift of $20.  Please share it with someone on your staff that you know could really use it.  And it’s okay if that person is you!”  We recommend this method because sometimes it’s the “back of the house” staff at restaurants (cooks, dishwashers, etc.) who are really in need and who don’t have the opportunity to receive tips.

  4. If you are comfortable, ask the person if they are familiar with CDAIDE and that the organization helps hospitality workers with rent, car repair, medical costs, and other needs. CDAIDE also provides financial relief for workers who must quarantine or care for a quarantined child. Many workers still don’t know about CDAIDE and you can really help the service industry by getting the word out about this resource!  They need a manager or co-worker to refer them for help at www.cdaide.org.

SUGGESTIONS FOR GROUPS

(your office, your book club, your church group, your workout group)

  1. If you are working with a group, or your family really wants to make an impactful gift, consider providing a $20 envelope to everyone on staff at an establishment. We call this a “blitz.”

  2. We recommend calling ahead, explaining what you will be doing, and asking for the total number on staff.

  3. Then, schedule a time to show up to deliver the gift. This could be done as a group or by an individual.  Please consider that off times for restaurants are best (i.e., not during the lunch or dinner rush) and please observe practices that will keep everyone safe.
